Lawrence M. Meltzer, Esquire is partner of Meltzer & Bell, P.A. Mr. Meltzer brings an abundance of civil and criminal law experienced to the family law division of Meltzer & Bell, P.A.
Upon graduation from Nova Southeastern University College of Law in 1999, Mr. Meltzer practice civil law for two years before accepting an Assistant State Attorney position with the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.
As the Assistant State Attorney, Mr. Meltzer prosecuted misdemeanor criminal offenses, including domestic violence, assault, and battery. During his time as Assistant State Attorney, he tried over 60 cases to verdict.
In less than three years, Mr. Meltzer was promoted to Felony Prosecutor and eventually to Lead Felony Prosecutor with the Broward County State Attorney’s Office. In this role he tried over 45 felony trials to verdict.
In 2005 Mr. Meltzer became a Special Unit Prosecutor with the Sexual Battery Unit in Broward County. As a Special Unit Prosecutor, he prosecuted defendants charged with sexually motivated offenses.
After five years as a prosecutor, Mr. Meltzer joined the Ticket Clinic, a Law Firm as lead trial counsel, where he defended individuals facing DUI and serious traffic offenses. In this role he defended thousands of clients facing DUI and criminal traffic charges. He took over 110 cases to jury trial.
Criminal law and family law matters often overlap. It is important to have attorneys skilled in both areas to ensure all legal needs are met. In addition to defending individuals charged with domestic violence, assault, and battery as part of criminal practice, Mr. Meltzer has represented hundreds of petitioners and respondents in protective order hearings. Also, he has extensive experience handling matters involving time-sharing (child custody and visitation) and alimony.
